DENMARK international Thomas Kahlenberg is hoping Blackburn Rovers can end his German misery after being handed the chance to impress at Ewood Park this week.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder has been allowed to travel to England by his current employers, Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg. He is expected to spend the rest of the week training with Rovers.
Kahlenberg made the last of his 13 appearances for Wolfsburg this season in a 3-0 home defeat to Borussia Dortmund at the end of January and has fallen out of favour at the club ever since the sacking of manager Steve McClaren.
Wolfsburg’s caretaker boss Pierre Littbarski has since suspended Kahlenberg after a clash over team selection with both parties believed to be keen for him to move on this summer.
A transfer fee would be required to sign him this summer having moved to Germany from French club Auxerre for 3.7million euros in May 2009.
Rovers’ assistant boss and former Danish international John Jensen is understood to be a big admirer of Kahlenberg, having monitored his career closely.
Jensen had previously worked with Kahlenberg when he was assistant at Danish outfit Brondby between 2002 to 2006.
He was their star man in Brondby’s 2005 double-winning campaign, top scoring with 13 goals, before moving to Auxerre for £2.5m in June 2005.
He made more than 130 appearances for the French outfit, scoring 19 goals, before securing a move to Wolfsburg.
He has made 35 appearances for Denmark since his debut in 2003, and featured in the summer’s World Cup campaign in South Africa.
Kahlenberg was regarded as one of Denmark’s top young players as he rose through the youth ranks and was named the country’s under 21 player of the year in 2004.
